By Vietnam Veterans
God of peace, we pray for all deployed chaplains;
Visit and sustain them in their rounds, duties and deployments.
We pray for all in authority from the Commander-in-Chief to the squad leaders, and for our law-makers;
Support and guide them that they may serve without reproach.
We pray for our enemies;
Deliver them and us from hatred, cruelty and revenge.
We pray for compassion and understanding among all peoples;
Teach us to resolve our conflicts without war.
We pray for all that has been harmed in war;
Lord, heal what has been broken.
We pray for all active duty personnel;
Strengthen and protect them in the day of battle, and in peace keep them safe from evil.
We pray for all returning veterans;
That they may know acceptance, healing and peace; and find jobs.
We pray for the marriages and families of those who are deployed;
Grant them strength, courage and peace of mind; Give us the kindness to remember them as seems best.
We pray for the doctors, nurses and medics;
May our community be a place of healing and support.
We pray for those who are sick and wounded in mind, body and spirit;
Strengthen them, and give them patience and faith in You.
We give You thanks for those have served, and for all who have laid down their lives in the service of their country:
Comfort those who mourn, and let light perpetual shine upon them.
We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life. Lord, let your loving kindness be upon them;
Who put their trust in you.
I ask your prayers for those we now name silently or aloud …
Celebrant: O Lord our God, hear the fervent prayers of your people; in the multitude of your mercies, look with compassion upon us and all who turn to you for help; for you are gracious, O lover of souls, and to you we give glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
The Prayers of the People are based on conversations with four Vietnam veterans: Dr. Frank Budd, Steve Hauck, the Rev. David Hill, and Quentin Olson. Additional material is taken from the “Prayer Book for the Armed Services,” printed for the Bishop for the Armed Services, the Episcopal Church (2002). –The Rev. Marta Maddy.
By Our Youth
O Lover of souls, we pray:
For the Episcopal Faith community, its mission, and for an increased youth presence.
For the New President of the United States; may the best person for the job win and may he/she have knowledge, wisdom and guidance to lead our great nation
For all those who serve and protect, especially those in the military and law enforcement,
may they bear the armor of God and stay safe in all they do
For Peace for all nations…
For an end to war, poverty and injustice
For the care of the earth- climate control and pollution,
may we take care of the earth so that the earth can take care of us…
For all youth at St. Andrew’s by the Lake and Trinity Episcopal Churches…
may they continue their faith journey fueled by the love,
support and guidance of both communities
For the confirmands, their families and sponsors
For all those addicted to drugs and alcohol,
may they find the courage and strength to overcome their addiction,
and seek a safer, more rewarding higher power in Christ
For all those incarcerated in jails and prisons here and in other countries; and especially for all
youth incarcerated at AJC in Duluth may they find the strength, wisdom and prayer of Paul,
and use their time to better themselves and others…
For the homeless, those suffering from any type of illness, the hungry,
and all those need access to basic health care.
May the souls of our loved ones continue to rest in peace and find light in eternity with The Father.
May we find peace in knowing that they rest in Christ Jesus.
